How to Create a Media Link Destination with TacTile
A Media Link destination sends anyone who taps your card or scans your code straight to media you already host on another platform — YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, or similar. In the TacTile app, choose Photos & Videos, select Media Link, paste the platform URL, and save; there's a single Link path, so setup takes under two minutes.

A Media Link destination is a tap-or-scan redirect to media hosted on an external platform you don't control the servers for — the content stays on YouTube, Instagram, or wherever it already lives, and TacTile simply routes the tap to it. Put simply: it's for media you point to, not media you host.
73% of people say they'd rather learn about a product by watching a video than by reading text.
How to create a media link destination
Redirect to media hosted on an external platform — the only path for this destination.Recommended
- Open the TacTile app and tap Create.
- On the category picker, select Photos & Videos — "Galleries, clips, and links."
- On the type picker, choose Media Link under the Link section.
- Open the platform where your content lives (YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.) and copy the share link to the specific video, post, or profile.
- Paste the link into the TacTile builder. TacTile detects the platform and shows a live preview thumbnail where supported.
- Name the destination (e.g., "Watch Our Story" or "Latest Reel").
- Choose whether the tap should open the platform's native app (if installed) or a browser view.
- Tap Save, then assign the destination to your NFC card, QR code, or profile slot.
- Test it on both an iPhone and Android device, since app-open behavior can vary by platform and by whether the visitor has the app installed.
Which path should I use?
There's only one path for Media Link, but the decision that matters is choosing between Media Link and its close sibling, the Video/Audio destination. Use Media Link when your content already lives on YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, or another platform and you want to keep it there — you benefit from that platform's view counts, comments, and algorithmic reach. Use Video/Audio instead when you want to upload or host the clip yourself so the tap plays it directly with zero dependency on an outside platform (better for private, client-specific, or single-purpose clips like a personal intro). If in doubt: ask whether the content should build its audience on a public platform (Media Link) or stay private and self-contained (Video/Audio).
Common use cases
YouTubers and podcasters
An NFC card at a meetup or booth opens straight to a channel's latest video or a specific episode.
Restaurants and retail on Instagram
A table tent or window decal links to an Instagram Reel showing the specialty dish or new product drop.
Musicians promoting a release
A flyer QR code opens directly to a music video or lyric video hosted on YouTube instead of a static streaming link.
Artists and archivists using Tumblr or niche platforms
Creators whose portfolio lives on a platform outside the mainstream big three can still route a tap straight to it.
Event recap and testimonial sharing
A follow-up thank-you card links to an Instagram highlight reel or YouTube recap of the event guests just attended.
Media Link + analytics
TacTile reports Total Views for the redirect itself — how many taps or scans opened the destination and were sent onward to the platform. Because the actual watch-time, likes, and comments happen on YouTube/Instagram/Tumblr's own analytics, treat TacTile's view count as your "intent to watch" number and cross-reference it with the platform's own view count for the same period to estimate follow-through.
